Southeast Shelby Rescue currently provides 9-1-1 first response for approximately 52% of the land area in Shelby County. Southeast Shelby has 8 employees on duty 24/7/365 staffing 4 transport units, as well as several volunteers that provide response in specialized rescue vehicles. Our agency operates a medium duty rescue truck with a compliment of motor vehicle extrication equipment and technical rescue equipment. We also have a specialized rescue boat for operations on Lay Lake.
Rescue 85 contains a full compliment of vehicle extrication tools, rope rescue equipment, as well as other technical rescue devices.
Marine 85 is a specialized rescue boat that can be used for water rescues as well as coordinated efforts with other agencies in recovery operations.
All of our transport units carry ALS equipment. Additionally, we carry life saving equipment that is not required but is proven to improve outcomes, especially in a rural setting with limited personnel and extended transport times.
Chief
Coby started at Southeast Shelby in 1990 and is licensed as an EMT-Intermediate. He has held many officer positions over the years, including many years as the Assistant Chief. Most recently he was promoted to Chief in April of 2022. Chief Carden lives in the Shelby community and will often be seen running calls after hours to assist the on duty crews.
Deputy Chief
Matt started his EMS career in 2001. He became a licensed paramedic in 2003. He has held supervisory positions with several different EMS agencies serving central. He joined Southeast Shelby in 2007. He was promoted to operations captain in 2010 and held that position until 2021 when he was promoted to Deputy Chief. Matt has served on several boards and committees that benefit the state of Fire and EMS in Shelby.
Executive Officer
Bryan has been in EMS since 2005 and is currently licensed as an EMT. He joined Southeast Shelby in 2015 and came on full time as the Executive Officer in 2021. He staffs a transport unit on a regular shift as well as oversees the day to day operations of the administration office.
Office Manager
Alyson joined Southeast Shelby in 2022. She comes to us with extensive history in healthcare administration. She currently manages the business office for Southeast Shelby Rescue. Alyson is also a licensed EMT and assists on calls for service as well as staff an extra unit if needed.
